Ikea’s facebookpage is popular

I gotta tell ya, this blog is becoming more and more about FacebookPages. But I thought this might be interesting for my Facebook-Experiment.

In July, Ikea had a competition for their famous shelved cabinets “Billy”. They were around for 30 years, time for a bit of a promotion. So the

y decided to use Facebook. A Facebook app called the “Billygram” was designed.

The app gives u the possibility to post messages on a friends wall with this rack of letters (Small Billy Cabinets). In one week, 20.000 people used the app. Hows that for gaining traffic to your site!

The campagne is an awardwinning brainchild of Ogilvy in Frankfurt (Germany).

Your twitterpage sucks. Does it matter?

Here Sudharsan writes an article that you need to adjust your personal page on twitter. He feels branding is very important for a blogger. I partly (dis)agree.

Twitterpage?

If you want to adjust your twitterpage on twitter.com, that’s fine. However, more and more people use their mobile phones for twitter and otherwise they are using applications like Hootsuite or Tweetdeck. So I don’t feel that a branding of a twitteraccount is necessary with a high priority. If you use your blog for you business, then you REALLY should do it.

A nice logo.

What I do agree on though, is use a nice profile picture. A good shot of your face or the favicon that you have on your blog, site and facebookpage. That creates one flow of design and you will be easier recognised through that logo.

Different twitter account for your blog?

Or use your personal twitteraccount? I am still a bit in the middle about this issue. Of course if you have a business, I still say use a different business account for that reason. When I keep it for this blog, it’s not really a priority to have a special twitteraccount for your site. I also feel that having a personal touch to my tweeting that’s not about my blog, might give readers a bit of connection to me as a blogging.

I wonder how you feel about having several account for twitter? Use your personal account for promoting your blogs? Or a seperate account?

The thing is, it also depends on your followers. You do need to have followers that actually appreciate your blogpostingtweets. So if you have a nice mix, then it might not be so bad to use your personal twitter account.

To Blog or Not to Blog (via Over here)

This is a long post, but I really enjoyed to read it!

To Blog or Not to Blog I've been thinking about blogging lately, which is weird. Not as in "oh I should blog about tea" or "I should write something on my blog" but about the general act of blogging and specifically why people choose to write on their blogs or even have blogs at all. I was inspired, if one can say that, by a recent post I read which was about this very subjec … Read More

You are using twitter, but are you using it right?

Ok, so I got you going on the whole importance of using twitter for your blog. Twitter has its own science. There’s more to it, than just posting a link and a message.

Some people on twitter actually have a lot of other people they follow. So their timeline is really busy and crowded. The point is, you need to stand from that.

Use verbs and saucy messages.

If you use funny one-liners that start with verbs, it’s attention grabbing. People get curious and they will click on your link. If they retweet it, than you’re in business.

Short Short Short.

I can’t tell you enough, keep it short on twitter. And this is why it’s such a sport! Which words can you use to grab someone’s attention? It’s also useful to keep it short, because when they do retweet your very interesting message, be kind enough to leave them room to write in their own message. You will want this, because their followers need to know why follower number 1  thinks your post is worthy for them to read.

#Hashtags

A hashtag is a word that is preceded by a # so that the word is easier to be found on twitter. People can find your message more easily now. You can use words like #blog #mustread #wordpress. Here’s a site that totally commits themselves to hashtags on twitter.

Use twitter, get traffic to your blog.

Twitter can be a great source to get traffic to your site, blog or any other link you wish people to see. You do need to know how use the darn thing though.

I have some good information I can share with you on this topic. I love twitter. It’s really easy, it’s fast and it’s entertaining. But twitter is only fun if you know how to get your message across in a few words. 140 characters to be exact. For me, that’s great fun. For others it can be a bit of a trial.

If you want to promote your blog or any link for that matter by way of twitter, be sure to keep your message shorter than the specified amount of characters. People might want to retweet and put in their own message in the retweet. If this happens, than you know you’ve done a good job.

Now I also wanted to inform you about Hootsuite and Tweetdeck. Those two programs have a super option built in: Timing your posts! You can put in your url, write a message and set a date to which you’d like it to post. You can set multiple dates. But be sure not to post it too much. People don’t care anymore. This one guy on my twittertimeline does that and it’s starting to show that he hasn’t written a post in a while. If you do tweet about your post, than it’s a good idea to post the one article that you think is actually really good. Or did have a lot of readers. Your new readers get a good impression this way.

Shoutout to a personal blog: “The Lifestyle Hub”

Just randomly cruisin’ on wordpress “Freshly pressed” option, I found this lovely blog.

The Lifestyle Hub is a personal blog which entertains you on some random thoughts on modern living. Melanie is the owner of this blog and she is herself a writer, columnist and an editor, which you can derrive from her writing. It’s a good read. You can tell she can love to write and she loves to tell you about her considerations.

The design of the site is very compatible to her thoughts. I really like it. The layout is very simple, which is just enough for us to find. You can really focus on her writing that way. Big kudos for that. A good example which backs up my earlier post about design and layout.

I also recommend this article about designing your blog.
